Kazak’s Picks: October 2021

Clockwise from top left: I Don’t Need the Light by Bedouine (Waysides album artwork), Vanishing by Circuit des Yeux (-io album artwork), Tehachapi by Margo Cilker (Pohorylle album artwork), and First Time in America by Naira Marley (Single artwork)

One of the things that I enjoy most about making these monthly playlists is the opportunity to discover incongruous musical pairings that fit together perfectly in spite of all reasonable expectations. October’s playlist featured a number of particularly delightful examples; I can’t say that when I started this blog that I expected to be putting a sludgy alt-rock track by illuminati hotties side-by-side with immaculate, disco-infused K-Pop by TWICE. I certainly wouldn’t have put money on a transition like that working so smoothly. But somehow it really does flow, and once again I’m left with a big, silly smile on my face as a result of the wonderful unpredicatbility of music.

Any track that was released as a single or as part of an album, EP, or any other kind of musical project in October was eligible for inclusion for this month’s playlist (which is why you might see some tracks that first emerged in previous months).

WARNING: All tracks and their accompanying videos are completely uncensored. A number of them contain explicit language that is unsuitable for children, NSFW topics and images, discussions of potentially triggering subjects, and/or political commentary that may offend.
